COVID-19 Updated Bubble Schedule

We are excited to let you know that we have gotten the go ahead from our Professional Sport Organization, the Ontario Karate Federation, to resume classes in person as long as we continue to follow the safety protocols that are in place.

On October 9th, the Ontario government introduced additional targeted public health measures in the Ottawa, Peel, and Toronto public health unit regions. These modified Stage 2 restrictions included the closure of indoor gyms and fitness centres.

However, previously, the Provincial Government permitted the opening of training centers of the following organizations:

  • National Sport Organizations funded by Sport Canada
  • A Provincial Sport or Multi-Sport Organization recognized by the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries or a member club of that organization
  • A Professional Sport league or member of that league (Ontario Regulation 223/20 Amending O. RAEG 82/20 34.4 ii)

These rules regarding the centers being governed by the PSOs have not changed. This was confirmed in a meeting between the PSOs and The Minister of Sport, which took place on October 13th, 2020.

As a member of Karate Ontario, we will resume in person classes for Karate and Total Body Training on Saturday, October 24th. Zoom will still be an option for karate members not ready to resume classes in person. TBT members may register for 3 classes each week and Karate adults may register for an additional TBT class on top of their 2 karate classes.

The Karate schedule will look quite different as we have implemented a bubble system. Karate students have been placed in groups of 10 or less and assigned two class times throughout the week. This will allow us to minimize your contact with other members at the dojo. In order to fit all 19 bubble groups we have reduced most classes to 30 minutes. You will also have access to two additional zoom classes for your belt group each week. Don’t worry, your Senseis will ensure you get a good sweat on and get all of your curriculum in during your classes.

You will receive emails with your bubble assignment and a copy of the new schedule (also attached below) shortly.
